Press Release Summary: The Asociacion Amigos Medios Hispanos de Arizona (AAMHAZ)
will host the first-ever “Annual Gerardo Higginson Scholarship & Hispanic
Media Award Gala” on November 17, 2007 with proceeds funding scholarships for
financially challenged students attending Phoenix College. AAMHAZ is organizing the
event, which is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Phoenix Airport Marriott, 1101 N. 44th St.

host the first-ever “Annual Gerardo Higginson Scholarship & Hispanic Media
Award Gala” on November 17, 2007 with proceeds funding scholarships for
financially challenged students attending Phoenix College. AAMHAZ is organizing the
event, which is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Phoenix Airport Marriott, 1101 N. 44th St.

In addition, Latino television, radio and print media professionals and
organizations will be honored for outstanding work. The areas being included are
best reporter, producer, graphic designer, videographer, photographer, local
program, actor, editor, among others. Television and VIP guests from Mexico City are
expected to walk the red carpet.

“Gerardo Higginson is a young journalist and dedicated public servant who has
demonstrated exemplary community involvement. His support and contributions to the
Spanish-language and Hispanic media behind the scenes, as well as in front of the
cameras and microphones, have made a profound difference in local Latino
media,” said Stella Paolini, president of AAMHAZ,
“We are honored that Higginson has lent us his name for our organization and
benefit event.” Higginson, who is currently senior assistant to Phoenix Mayor
Phil Gordon, worked for several years in Spanish media, as a news reporter and
anchor, on-line journalist and newspaper columnist.
